Dr. Derrick TePaske, Communication Arts Department

  • Had some of his still photographs included in the documentary “Front Wards, Back Wards,” shown recently on PBS. The documentary is a history of the Walter E. Fernald School in Waltham, Massachusetts, and also a commentary on the evolution of the education and care of those with mental disabilities since the nineteenth century. TePaske served as an editorial consultant for the film, which was produced by the Coruway Film Institute.

Dr. Michael Wong-Russell, Modern Languages Department

  • Joined an international team of Spanish instructors from around the world at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, in June to score this year’s Advanced Placement Spanish examination. He has a six-year appointment as a faculty consultant with the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, New Jersey.
  • Presented the results of his research on the representation of schizophreniform psychoses in the works of Uruguayan author Horacio Quiroga at the annual convention of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese held in San Diego, California, in August. His paper, “Reason Derailed,” was read and discussed with an international audience of Spanish professors.
