Along with fellow education majors initiated Sunday, April 6, into Kappa Delta Pi, the International Honor Society in Education, Amanda Green, ’09, was inspired: “Being a part of KDP is really an honor, and makes me want to become a teacher that much more.”

Green, center, is seen above at the ceremony with 2008-09 KDP co-vice president Kristen Baranofsky,’09, left, and Samantha Laferriere, ’09.

KDP membership brings ongoing benefits to its members. “As a pre-service teacher and future educator,” says Baranofsky, “KDP gives me access to resources not only for my training but for my whole career.”

Ms. Margaret Donohoe, principal of the Fannie Proctor Elementary School in Northborough, was the keynote speaker. She told a story about teaching children who are “different” that made a strong impression on Green: “I really hope that when I become an educator, I can also find a place for all the little mermaids out there or any other child that doesn’t quite fit in.”

Baranofsky expressed her appreciation of the KDP faculty advisors, Drs. Kelly Kolodny and Julia Zoino-Jeannetti: “Dr. Kolodny puts a lot of passion both into teaching and getting people to be involved with the community. Dr. Zoino-Jeannetti also reaches out to help students and I look forward to getting to know her next year.”
