“First place in the nation. WOW!”Professor Terry Sellarole said it all when she heard the good news. Beta Pi, FSC’s chapter of the family and consumer sciences national honor society Phi Upsilon Omicron, was the national winner of the 2007-2008 undergraduate prize for its professional project.

Beta Pi scored this spectacular success in a special year for the honor society— its centennial. The students worked with the theme for the year, “Inspired by the Past . . . Believe in the Present . . . Imagine the Future,” to bring awareness of global warming to the community. They promoted recycling and the use of bicycles, educated young children about the environment, and participated in FSC’s green festival.

“I am so proud of the entire chapter,” says Sellarole, co-advisor with Professor Rebecca Taylor of the campus chapter. “It truly was a great year with everyone developing creative ideas for the project, participating, and having fun while working together.”

Sellarole especially commended Chapter Vice President Caitlin Nash, a senior nutrition major, for her leadership. “As a dietetics major, it is my heartfelt desire to continue to uphold the high standards demanded by Phi Upsilon Omicron,” says Nash.

Taylor will also be honored in Phi Upsilon Omicron’s 100th year. Currently the society’s president-elect, she will become president at the centennial conclave in late September.
