Passive voice
In the passive voice the subject receives the action described by the verb. It is indirect but appropriate when readers are more interested in the receiver or result of the action. Passive voice is used more frequently in the sciences than in the humanities and the social sciences.
Examples:Many accidents are caused by drunk drivers in the U.S.A.
Africa was visited by many FSC students last summer.
This apartment has been occupied by Eric for three years.

Passive Voice in Different Verb Tenses
To form the passive voice in different verb tenses, follow this formula: object + helping verb (as appropriate for the verb tense) + be/been/being (as appropriate for the verb tense) + past participle + (by) + (subject).
Exception: In the passive voice, you can omit by and the subject when they are unnecessary in the sentence.
