Modern Language Association (MLA) style is a guideline commonly used in writing documents. MLA Style affects not only the actual text you are writing, but also the way you reference and cite sources. MLA style is the preferred writing style for the humanities, which include majors like Communication Arts, English, Art, and History.

MLA Style may seem familiar to you because it is a commonly used in high schools. Even if you think you understand MLA Style completely, don’t be afraid to use this site and to check for recent additions to the rules of MLA. There are numerous editions of the MLA Style Handbook available; the most recent being the sixth edition. It is important to keep up-to-date on MLA Style because it is always evolving and changing.
